24 civilians and monks fainted and seriously injured when Thai troops fired rubber bullets, rubber slingshots, and smoke bombs as they spread barbed wire on Cambodian soil

(Phnom Penh): A spokesperson for the Royal Government of Cambodia on the evening of September 17, 2025, said that approximately 24 Cambodian citizens and monks were injured due to the use of violence using rubber bullets and rubber slingshots fired by Thai military forces in Prey Chan village, O Bei Choan commune, O Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, when they went out to defend their legal land from Thai encroachment.
In the afternoon of September 17, 2025, at 3:44 p.m. Thai armed troops and police officers, armed with batons, shields, and other equipment, entered the area to disperse the protesters in area of Prey Chan village, O Bei Choan commune, O Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, to enclose the land where Cambodian people have lived and benefited for a long time. But the people there came forward to defend their land and removed the barbed wire.
Thai authorities fired rubber bullets and smoke bombs at Cambodian citizens, causing them to shed tears and using sound equipment that damaged their eardrums and brain systems. They also caused violence against Cambodian citizens by using riot gear and firing rubber slingshots, causing at least 24 citizens and monks to faint and sustain serious and minor injuries.
Cambodian armed forces and law enforcement agencies, who are stationed in the area, were also present at the incident to protect the safety of the citizens to fulfill their professional duties and high responsibilities in strictly adhering to the ceasefire agreement and respecting the agreed principles in resolving issues peacefully and fairly in accordance with international law.
According to a spokesperson for the Royal Government of Cambodia, police and authorities in Banteay Meanchey province rescued the injured citizens and monks and sent an ambulance to transport the seriously injured to the hospital.
