CCN’s editor, which recently lost his license, Meas Sara was arrested by authorities on Tuesday while reporting on behalf of a private individual at a location where Cambodian citizens were protesting against the deployment of barbed wire by Thai soldiers in Chok Chey village, Banteay Meanchey province.
On August 26, a Facebook account named Meas Sara stated that Mr. Meas Sara, whose license was revoked by the Ministry of Information, was arrested by authorities on the morning of August 26, 2025, in Chok Chey village, O Bei Choan commune, O Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province.
According to the last live video broadcast at 8 a.m. on August 26, Mr. Meas Sara was broadcasting news as a private individual without a media organization at a location where Thai soldiers were laying barbed wire in the village of Serengeti.
On August 21, 2025, the Ministry of Information decided to revoke the press license of CCN Online TV, owned by Meas Sara, after the journalist reported on border issues in Banteay Meanchey province. On August 20, there were reports of the loss of homes and Cambodian military posts due to barbed wire being laid by the Thai military.
However, after the Ministry of Information revoked his license on August 21, Mr. Meas Sara stated that he would no longer report as a journalist, but would instead report as a citizen and youth who love the country.
In relation to this issue, Banteay Meanchey Provincial Governor Um Reatrey also banned the broadcast of SBT News, owned by San Bunthoeun, on August 26, over its coverage of the protests of Cambodian citizens in Chok Chey village, O Bei Chon commune. Banteay Meanchey Province for the Thai army’s barbed wire at the scene.

Regarding this ban, CNRP MP Suon Rida wrote on his Facebook page on August 26 that real information is being suppressed and such actions are only making Cambodians lose faith in the government.

Some Facebook users also expressed their dissatisfaction with the authorities’ ban on broadcasting the Thai army’s barbed wire activities such as the statement that the government is hiding information from the public about the truth about the invasion of the territory by the Thai army, etc.
