WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) announced today a $3 million gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, the former wife of billionaire Jeff Bazo who is the founder of the online shopping giant Amazon. The gift is to help advance NAPAWF mission in promoting and advancing a national, multi-issue movement for AAPI women and girls.
“We are immensely grateful to Ms. Scott and her team for this generous and timely gift,” says Sung Yeon Choimorrow, executive director at the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum. “Too often, the needs and lived experiences of AAPI women and girls are either masked or completely ignored. However, in reality, millions of AAPI women continue to work in frontline, low-wage jobs, often without access to reliable health care for themselves or the families they care for.”
NAPAWF’s movement building work is rooted in increasing the visibility and influence of AAPI and immigrant communities. By amplifying our stories, NAPAWF advocates for policies that build and create thriving communities, where AAPI women have full agency to make the best decisions for their lives, children, and families.
“We appreciate the thoughtful and extensive evaluation process for this gift and accept it with a great sense of promise and responsibility,” says Choimorrow. “This investment is a clear affirmation of NAPAWF’s critical work towards uplifting the voices and humanity of AAPI women and girls.”
The National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) is the only multi-issue, progressive, community organizing and policy advocacy organization for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women and girls in the U.S. NAPAWF’s mission is to build collective power so that all AAPI women and girls can have full agency over our lives, our families, and our communities.
