Phnom Penh Police bring phone seller in for questioning over soldier insults

Phnom Penh police brought a female phone seller, identified as Chenda Sovannary, to the Phnom Penh police headquarters this morning, for questioning and clarification after she allegedly used inappropriate and insulting language against Cambodian soldiers on social media.

Phnom Penh Municipal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Choun Narin confirmed that the woman had been taken in for questioning.

According to sources, police from Dangkor district and the Phnom Penh went to the woman’s home near the Prek Chrey area on Wednesday night and remained there until the following morning, then she was taken to the municipal police headquarters.

The case stemmed from a dispute over a mobile phone purchased by a soldier. After the phone allegedly failed to function properly, the buyer requested to return it and receive a refund, following which the seller allegedly posted on social media insulting remarks directed at the soldiers.

As of today, Sovannary remains in detention as authorities continued to examine the incident.
