On July 28, 2025, Cambodia and Thailand agreed on a ceasefire, establishing 13 conditions on August 7, which prohibited both sides from attacking civilians. and military targets, including prohibiting the movement of troops.
However, the Cambodian government claims that the Thai side continues to violate Cambodia and the ceasefire by repeatedly placing barbed wire into Cambodian territory, such as at the An Ses border crossing in Preah Vihear province and Nong Chan pass, Banteay Meanchey Province, by surrounding the homes of Cambodian citizens, etc.
Regarding this issue, Reuters news agency reported on August 14 that at the 10th Lancang-Mekong Summit in China on August 14, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged Cambodia and Thailand to resolve border disputes through dialogue and consultation.
The same source claims that China believes in both parties resolving the dispute through dialogue and negotiation, while China also supports ASEAN in playing a positive role on the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute for the sake of ASEAN unity.
Wang Yi stated that China also supports the two countries in strengthening dialogue, hoping that Cambodia and Thailand can build mutual trust and restore friendship.
Regarding this issue, Cambodian Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Maly Socheata stated in a press conference on August 14 that Cambodia is committed to working constructively and honestly to ensure the effective implementation of the ceasefire. And resolve all disputes peacefully in accordance with international law, the United Nations Charter, and the ASEAN Charter.
