SAN FERNANDO, CA – On October 20, 2025, the
San Fernando City Council officially appointed
Kanika Kith as their new City Manager. Ms. Kith
makes history, becoming the first female in this
leadership role since the City adopted a Council-
Manager form of government in 2013.
This appointment recognizes Ms. Kith’s
outstanding leadership during her time as Interim
City Manager. Within a short time, she launched
impactful initiatives like San Fernando Together,
connecting immigrant families to vital resources, and conducted a strategic
assessment of the Police Department to enhance operations and build public
trust.
Councilmembers praised her performance and vision:
“Kanika’s leadership as Interim City Manager made this an easy decision,” said
Mayor Mary Mendoza. “In just a few months, she accomplished so much and
elevated the City to another level. I’m confident she will continue moving San
Fernando forward with integrity, dedication, and strong leadership.”
Vice Mayor Mary Solorio added, “I want to congratulate Kanika and thank her for
doing an incredible job over these last few months and we look forward to seeing
her vision for the City, in improving all things San Fernando.
“Kanika’s performance over the last few months speaks volumes,” said Councilmember Joel Fajardo. “I’ll admit, I’m not easy to win over, but her leadership, results, and commitment to keeping San Fernando moving forward have made it clear she’s the right person to lead San Fernando.”
“I am thrilled to join my colleagues in appointing our new City Manager Kanika Kith,” said Councilmember Victoria Garcia. “I appreciate her positive rapport with City staff and drive to get things done. She now bridges the gap by having served with much success as Deputy City Manager, while also bringing a new energy and big plans to grow San Fernando as a safe and beautiful community for our residents, businesses, and stakeholders.”
“I always support women in leadership, and Kanika has shown that she carries the City Council’s vision to the community,” said Councilmember Patty Lopez. “Seeing the support she’s earned from all departments means a lot to me, and I value the positive feedback about her from the residents. One of my priorities as a Councilmember is ensuring the safety of our residents, businesses, and the community.”
Ms. Kith brings over 20 years of experience in local government, including roles as Director of Community Development and Deputy City Manager. She spearheaded the award-winning Business and Community Resource Center (BCRC), which earned national recognition for innovation in community resources and economic development from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA).
“I am deeply honored to continue serving the San Fernando community in this new capacity,” said Kanika Kith. “San Fernando is a proud and close-knit community with dedicated staff, engaged residents, and strong community partnerships. I’m impressed by our hardworking and passionate team whose commitment to excellence is the backbone of our success. Together, we will continue building a stronger, more vibrant community for everyone who lives and works here.”
