Six new villages established in displaced camp

The government has announced the establishment of six new villages in a displacement camp in Banteay Meanchey province.

According to a Prakas issued by the Ministry of Interior on Wednesday, the new villages are named Rong Cham 1 to 6. They were created by separating them from Sla Kram village in Sla Kram commune, Svay Chek district.

The management structure of the newly established villages will follow the ministry’s directive of March 17, which outlines procedures for selecting village chiefs, organising their assumption of office, appointing assistants, and defining the roles, responsibilities, and working methods of village administrations.

Rong Cham village, which literally means “waiting village,” was named by Acting Head of State Hun Sen during his visit to the displacement camp in June.

On that occasion, Hun Sen explained that the establishment of the village does not signify that Cambodia is relinquishing its territorial claims. Rather, the term “waiting” reflects the people’s hope for a peaceful resolution to the border issue and their aspiration to return to their homes in safety and with dignity.
