VeoRide launches new dockless bikeshare program in Lowell

Lowell, Mass. – VeoRide and the City of Lowell celebrated the launch of the new dockless bikeshare program yesterday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of City Hall. Representatives from the City of Lowell, VeoRide and other local organizations were on hand to talk about the bikeshare, demonstrate how it works, and what it will mean to the community.

“We are proud to partner with the City of Lowell, and we have been so encouraged by the enthusiastic response by the community – even before we officially launched the bikeshare program here,” said Ezra Richardson, VeoRide fleet manager-Lowell. “Our mission is to unlock the joy of riding, whether it’s purely for an exercise break during the day, or just a quick errand.”

VeoRide provided an initial fleet of 180 teal-colored pedal bikes at no cost to the City. That number could grow, based on demand. The bikes are accessible through the VeoRide app, which enables riders to rent bikes for $0.50 for each 15 minutes of use, or individuals may purchase a Day Pass for $6.99 for 24 hours of unlimited 2-hour rides. Monthly and Annual memberships are also available for Lowell residents and visitors, and university students are offered discounted membership rates. Dozens of Lowell residents signed up for memberships on the first day, and VeoRide anticipates that trend will continue.

The bikes are easy to use. Just open the VeoRide app to find an available bike; scan the QR code or enter the bike’s ID number to unlock it; and go. When you’re finished with your ride, simply park in a designated area, side the lock on the back of the bike closed, and that will end your trip and the fare.
