Angkor Dance Troupe was proud to attend, and our Executive Director, Bora Chiemruom, opened the evening with welcoming remarks to the community.
The play itself was extraordinary. Written by Vichet Chum, Kween reflects the complex identities and lived experiences of Khmer Americans and other communities in Lowell and across the United States today.
The story carries a bit of everything—love, loss, displacement, deportation, sacrifice, pain, poetry, and acceptance. The mainly Khmer American cast delivered powerful performances that remind us what is possible for Cambodian American voices in theater and beyond in the generations after the Khmer Rouge.
It was truly a night to remember.
Congratulations to Vichet Chum, the entire cast, the production team, and Merrimack Repertory Theatre for an outstanding world-premiere production.
