Cambodian Jasmine Rice named Best in the World

For the second year in a row, Cambodian Jasmine Rice, paka mlis, was named the world’s best rice at the 2013 Rice Traders World Rice Conference held in Hong Kong.  Cambodian rice had also won the award in 2012 when the conference was held in Bali, Indonesia.   The president of the Rice Exportation federation, Kim Savuth, said he expected the amount of rice exports to rise to 1 million ton in 2015. In 2009, 12,613 tons of rice was exported from Cambodia.   105,259 tons were exported in 2010. The number rose to 201,899 tons in 2011. In 2012, the number increased to 205,717 tons. For the first six months of 2013, the total amount of exports is already over 300,000 tons, and is expected to be 450,000 tons by the end of the year. Original Story by Cha Pharith, AKP.
