Monday, January 17th, 2022 – Lowell’s Middlesex Community College partnered with the Living the Dream Partners and hosted a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s virtual event that honored four distinguished community members and organizations. The Living the Dream Partner Awards recipients were including community members Dolores “Loli” Sierra and Newell Flather as Individuals, the “Community Block Party’s Meet your Candidates” as the Event held by the Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association (CMAA), and The Center for Hope and Healing, Inc. as an Organization.
“For over 20 years, the Living the Dream Partners have hosted an event to honor the life and teachings of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As part of the celebration, the Partners honor community members of Greater Lowell who on both a personal and professional level have dedicated themselves to supporting the community in ways inspired by Dr. King’s beliefs,” MCC wrote on a release statement.
“On behalf of the Civic Team at CMAA, we are honored to receive this award,” said Tara Hong, CMAA’s Civic Engagement Coordinator. “The work of serving our community will ever end, but we are here to continue to serve as the resource to the City of Lowell, not just from the civic team but also from other departments at CMAA. The Civic Team at CMAA is committed to serving the community for these upcoming years of elections as well. Thank you so much – we are honored to receive this award, and let us continue to do great work as one community.”
On October 23, 2021, CMAA held a Meet Your Candidates event which gathered over 100 community members to with 19 city council and school committee candidates to highlight the importance of voting and having representation in government.
